Objective / Description
HMP Maghaberry, situated in Northern Ireland is constantly endeavouring to provide constructive regimes. There are many facets to life in the prison but recently projects involving prisoners communicating and making friendships through education have started to blossom. Not only is there a great desire to develop relationships between institutions through Grundtvig project, (flexability in prison teaching) and "MABEL" (Multidisciplinary approach to Basic Adult Education) but a programme of wheelchair refurbishment has allowed prisoners and staff to assist others overseas less fortunate than themselves.
Contacts have been made through the educational projects with prisons in Norway, Bulgaria, Romania et al.
Congratulations for the enthusiasm and endeavour is due to all participating.

In future the wheelchair project may require funding however the costings involved have yet to be determined.
