| ACTIVITIES OF THE PROJECT |
| Fields of action |
• Education for a culture of peace and non-violence
• Respect for all human rights
• Understanding, tolerance, solidarity
| Objective / Description |
| The objective of this world contest is to promote a culture of peace by raising awareness among young children about this concept, but also through listening to their vision and spontaneous suggestions on self-respect and respect for others, sharing, tolerance, war and peace, reconciliation, etc…
Teachers and educators participating in the contest will help children invent a story in pictures, in the form of a tale using animals, natural elements, nature, colours, and their own symbols. This story will be a collective work based on key words young children can understand. It will be made up of six drawings, each illustrating one or several of the following themes: respect of all life, non-violence, sharing, listening and understanding, preservation of the world, tolerance and solidarity.
A jury presided by H.R.H. the Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg (UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador), composed of children from various nationalities and from personnalities concerned by childhood will choose the winners. The four winning institutions will receive a prize best suited to their current needs. |

| This project will give a comprehensive view of the way young children aged from 4 to 7 years old perceive the world, the human relations and of their ideas to promote a culure of peace. Therefore, it will provide information which will be useful to strengthen the culture of peace movement.
This world contest will provide the opportunity to build a network of teachers, educators and young children working in favour of building and promoting a culture of peace and non-violence.

• Communication means
| The success of this project requires the involvement of a maximum number of institutions and therefore a large scale information campaign concerning the project. It implies the need for UNESCO to mobilize its network and its communication means. The involvement of schools and other institutions for young children is needed. Moreover UNESCO needs the support of sponsors to provide the winners with prizes best suited to their needs, either a:
- "multimedia" prize;
- "equipment and school supplies" prize;
- "library/medialibrary" prize;
- "means of transport" prize.
To ensure that prizes are best adapted to the winners' needs, potential sponsors may be asked to commit themselves to a prize amount in the category that concerns them, the nature of which would be specified upon the selection of the winners. |
